As if the Rogas house is not a zoo enough we decided that the Washington County Fair sounded like a good idea. Britt loves animals so why shouldn't we let him show something? OK let me tell you, there is a difference between loving animals and the fair! Don't get me wrong, Britt did a really good job of taking care of his animals but he is only 8 years old! If I ever see a turkey looking in the window at me while I'm in the bathtub it will be tooooo soon! I want to write a few of our experiences down so that one day when my boys make millions off of their livestock (stop laughing) they will know where they started!
Fair 2010 - if it could go wrong it probably did.
Britt's Girls - the pen of heifers. God loves them I hope because we surely do not. We love animals cows included BUT these girls could use a good dose of valium! Poor Britt has tried for months to get them to be gentle but gentle is just not in the vocabulary! They are truly the wildest cows I have ever seen. They have run many a cowboy up a fence just for looking at them the wrong way! Since they are such ANIMALS in the worst sense of the word - we had to do something to entice buyers SO we came up with a plan to make the show pen interesting. Britt started naming the girls and mom went to work. This is what we came up with! Thank goodness for a zoom lense and photoshop!
They look innocent enough don't they? - - -
This is the board we are using to put on their pen - they don't even look all that evil - wait until you read on, you will almost think they are cute!
This is the write up that is going to go on the board - you didn't think I was that on top of things did you? It is not due until tomorrow - I still have a couple of hours to put it off! Besides - Cow number 3 doesn't have a real name at the moment - I don't think it would look good to call her Hamburger!

So wish us luck - maybe we won't have to bring hamburger, t bone, and rump roast home!
Time to talk turkey! I really love my kiddo - my laundry room became an incubator for 15 turkeys for probably a week. If you haven't ever smelled turkeys - they don't smell like holly hocks thats for sure - ... Finally I couldn't take it any longer not to mention they were learning to escape, AND I was having a very hard time protecting them from their enemy!

So we moved them into the garage into Britts Dove Cage. Much better for the enemy situation but not so much for the pleasant aroma! Finally the day comes that their actual pen is ready - this would be good news except for the fact that no one told us they were moving the kids. I was gone Southern Pride was at work and a sweet sitter was watching Jack... Southern Pride got a frantic phone call telling him the dogs were eating something with feathers! RR rushes home to find ONE turkey in the mouth of our beloved chicken killer and not a trace of the 13 others!!!! Holy you know what BATMAN! Poor RR is a nervous wreck - the poor sitter nearly in tears - and chicken killer just a smilin' !~ When RR finally calls me to tell me I ask him if he has called anyone to see if they happened to have moved them to their new home - long story short 13 happy birds one very aged RR!
Weeks pass without incident - That is UNTIL - I happen to be talking to Lovie while she has my boys and I hear OH NO OH NO OH NO and then CLICK.... You all know my men so you are probably thinking the same as me - Someone has shot the other one with something and there is probably blood spurting from something. I rush over to find blood spurting out of something alright... Abby and Puppy dog joined the ranks of Winston!
Finally - what is left of the fair project is moved back to my house. RR sets up camp for them right outside of my bathroom window. I can tell you there is nothing like being half asleep in the bathtub only to find yourself eye to eye with a 25 lb. turkey! Oh Well - Happy Thanksgiving to all if you know what I mean.
I know this has been a long and mighty boring post - BUT Boys when you are grown and reading this to your kids - remember how much your mom did for you! This post should certainly keep me out of rest home for a little longer anyway!
